Proper Maintenance of Swimming Pool

Swimming Pool

Having a swimming pool has many benefits – it could be an investment, it gives you easy access to cool down during summer, and it could be the perfect spot to strengthen family bonds through simple but fun swimming activities.

However, having a pool is also a responsibility because keeping it clean is something that you have to do regularly as the pool owner. And keeping it clean doesn’t just mean that it looks clean – it needs to be free from harmful bacteria.

The good news is, you don’t always have to call your local pool cleaning company to clean and maintain your pool for you. You can do the maintenance and clean yourself.

  • First and foremost, you, of course, have to remove debris from the pool – fallen leaves, branches, or any other junks that make your pool look dirty.
  • Vacuuming your pool as well as the pool surface itself is also necessary every now and then to make sure they are free from any stubborn dirt.
  • Chlorine is imperative to be added into the pool water to ensure that your swimming pool will be free from any unwanted bacteria. The ideal measure of chlorine for a swimming pool is 1.0 and 3.0 parts per million (ppm). Be extra careful in adding chlorine to the pool since too much chlorine can result in skin or eye irritation.
  • Test the pH levels of your pool. Buy a pool pH testing kit from a convenience store and dip a tester into the water. The ideal pH levels should be in between 7.2 and 7.6.
  • Clean or backwash the pool filters.

You should perform a pool clean up and maintenance at least once a week to make sure that your pool is always in a clean, healthy condition. Swimming in a dirty pool can lead to infection.

Deciding on the Size of Your Swimming Pool

Swimming Pool

You’re all set – you have saved enough and you will go for it. You are decided to have your own swimming pool built in your very own backyard. But even when you have already decided to have a  pool in your property, there are still so many things to decide on.

One of the most important things you have to make a decision about is the size of your swimming pool. And there are points you have to take into consideration before finalizing your decision.

Aside from the fact that you might actually just want a place to relax or enjoy, you have to ask yourself what you will use the swimming pool for. If you are a professional swimmer or you’re aspiring to be one, you might need a bigger or longer pool where you can practice improving your swimming skills. Even if you are not a professional swimmer, are you planning to invite guests over and hold pool parties or gatherings in your home?

Just because you have a spacious backyard where you can build a swimming pool doesn’t mean that all this space will be taken up by just the swimming pool alone – you have to consider the swimming borders as well as design you envision around the actual swimming pool. Do you want to add a patio? How many pool furniture do you plan to place on the poolside?

In addition, if you are just starting out a family, you have to consider the size of family you are planning to have. An average sized pool may be enough if you are not planning to have kids or if you are intending to have just a couple of children. But if you want to have more than just two kids, you might want a bigger pool – don’t forget that kids grow fast.

Another important thing to factor in is your budget. Of course, the bigger the pool, the more expensive the construction will be.
